Frequently asked questions
How much smaller will my images get?
Typically 60–90% for photos at the Balanced preset. The exact saving is shown per image and for the batch as a whole, so you never have to guess.
Why would compressing an image make it bigger?
Because JPEG is built for photographs, not flat graphics. Re-encoding a logo, screenshot or diagram that was already an efficient PNG can easily double its size. The "Never make a file bigger" option is on by default: when the compressed version would be larger, the original is kept and marked "already optimal" instead.
What is the fastest way to make photos much smaller?
Turn on the longest-edge limit. A phone photo is often 4000px wide but only ever viewed at 1500px — reducing the dimensions saves far more than the quality slider alone, which is why tools that only adjust quality disappoint on camera photos.
Is my data uploaded to a server?
No. Every tool on this site runs entirely inside your browser using JavaScript. Your input never leaves your device and is never sent over the network, which means it is safe to paste production data, API responses and tokens.
